Sinus Infection Symptoms
It is important to know and identify the various sinus
infection symptoms so that you may effectively control the
sinus problem before it gets worse.

It is essential that you know the chief
sinus infection symptoms so that early
detection can lead to early treatment and effective control of
the illness at the onset. Sinus infection is an irritating
disease and a painful one too. But the sad part is that some
people may have a sinus infection condition for years and yet
they are not aware of it.
In general, the symptoms of sinus infection
are general weakness and lethargy, nasal congestion, rhinitis
or runny nose and it is also common to have fever and headache
in all types of sinus infection.
Some people will find difficulty in their
focus. Their eyes are especially sensitive to bright
lights. A chronic sore throat which does not seem to heal
could mean the presence of sinus infection. Serous
otitis media, a condition where the eustachian
tubes are blocked by mucus, could
also point to sinus infection.
Depending on which of the sinuses are
affected, the symptoms of the sinus infection may differ.
Maxillary sinus
infection has a close link with teeth
pain. This is due to the close proximity of the
upper teeth with this sinus cavity.
If the cause of teeth pain is not the result
of tooth decay after consulting a dental surgeon, then the most
likely cause is sinus infection. Should there be pain between
the eyes and swelling of the tissues below and around the eyes,
the ethmoid sinuses could be infected.
Sinus pain felt in the forehead and tender
to touch in this region points to an infection of the frontal
sinuses. On the other hand, if you have a deep headache with
pain behind and on top of the head, across the forehead, and
behind the eyes with double vision or vision disturbances,
then you could be suffering from acute Sphenoid sinusitis.
Top 10 Sinus Infection
Symptoms
- Puffy eyes and a persistent low-grade
sinus headache in the forehead just above the eyebrows
especially in the morning. This is caused by sinus pressure
within the frontal sinuses.
- Sinus pain or discomfort in the areas between and
around the eyes which is especially worse in the morning.
This is caused by sinus pressure within the ethmoid
sinuses.
- Facial pain. Soreness usually
felt in the areas of the bone structure below the eye
sockets. This is sinus pain caused by a buildup of sinus
pressure within the maxillary sinuses.
- A chronic sore throat which often
recurs.
- Tooth ache in the upper jaw
area, usually affecting the molars.
- Persistent nasal congestion.
- Eyes are sensitive to bright lights, especially in the
morning.
- Thick, opaque or yellowish/greenish
nasal discharge, often foul smelling.
- Frequent bouts of on and off
fever.
-
Otitis Media(blocked ears).This is
caused by eustachian tube
dysfunction when sticky mucus
finds their way into the tubes.
Thus, knowing the various sinus
infection symptoms can go a long way in early detection
of the illness and thus help in early treatment too.
However it must be noted that some of these sinus
infection symptoms are commonly found in other
illnesses and diseases such as nasopharyngeal
cancer. If in doubt, it is
prudent to consult a physician.
